The Modeling and Simulation Laboratory in Mechanics and Energetics has developed from the former Mechanics laboratory (EA 2545) recognized and contracted from 2002 to December 2007 within the framework of the 2002-2005 and 2006-2009 quadrennial Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée University (previously called the University of Marne-la-Vallée). On January 1, 2008, the labofut united with the former CT and TCM laboratories in order to build the MSME Laboratory. Having been recognized as a CNRS FRE on January 1, 2008, the latter then became a CNRS UMR including the Biomechanics team of the University of Paris-Est Créteil on January 1, 2010.
The lab's scientific activities focus on the two main themes described in detail below, which are in line with the positioning of the team and the skills of its members. At the same time, these reflect a desire to clear up, or even resolve, scientific questions of prime importance but considered very difficult in the mechanics of materials and structures. A characteristic of the research work carried out by team members is that it often includes both a theoretical and numerical component upstream and an application component downstream. This is mainly due to the fact that the team has a strong contractual research activity with partners such as PSA, EDF, SNCF, AREVA, CEA, CSTB, CTTB and INERIS. It should also be noted that, in a good number of cases, the team’s research work was accompanied by experimental identification and validation within the framework of academic and industrial collaborations.
