The center is responsible for carrying out research and experimentation and technological development in the field of materials sciences and their integration into the economic and social field.

To this end, it is responsible in particular for:

    carry out research programs falling under the centre's research structures,
    contribute to the development of scientific research and technology in the field of materials sciences and work to orient the results of this research for the benefit of the economic fabric,
    undertake, at the request of ministries, national institutions, establishments and public and private companies within the framework of agreements concluded for this purpose, any research, experimentation or expertise intended in particular to:
        Prepare and manufacture new materials,
        Add value to materials and integrate them into multiple uses,
        establish and improve material manufacturing processes,
        Discover and promote the natural resources in the field of materials.
    ensure scientific and technological monitoring and undertake prospective studies in the fields falling within its competence,
    register the research results with the competent body and work for their promotion and exploitation,
    undertake documentary research as part of its missions in order to know the evolution of the materials sciences sector of interest to the national economy, to monitor, analyze and evaluate the latter according to national development objectives,
    organize scientific and technological events and training courses in the field of its competence,
    encourage partnerships in the materials sciences sector with public or private establishments and companies, as well as higher education and research establishments and public scientific research establishments,
    establish and strengthen international partnerships in the field of materials sciences,
    provide scientific and technological expertise nationally and internationally,
    contribute to the training and supervision of students and researchers in masters and doctoral and postdoctoral studies as part of the centre's research and development programs and international cooperation,
    encourage the creation of innovative businesses, particularly in the context of technopoles,
    undertake as part of its missions all other scientific and technological work for which it is responsible within the framework of its missions.
