Laboratory of Mathematics, Computer Science and Applications

The Computer Science and Applications Mathematics Laboratory (LAMIA, EA 4540) is a hosting team from the University of the West Indies accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. LAMIA brings together around thirty lecturer-researchers (lecturers and university professors) as well as around fifteen doctoral students. Three of the Masters of the University of the West Indies are backed by LAMIA (Mathematics, Computer Science and MIAGE).

Specific skills & know-how
Mathematics: numerical modeling of problems involved in fluid mechanics, nonlinear optics, distributed computing, parallel computing, scientific computing, statistical analysis of spatiotemporal processes, stochastic modeling in epidemiology.
Computer science: knowledge extraction process and integration of expert knowledge, meta-heuristics, data fusion, systems modeling, geographic information systems, decision-making information systems, connectionism, pattern recognition, image analysis, remote sensing , distributed computing and sensor networks.

Valorization and industrial references
The team has developed several software released outside of LAMIA, including the distributed simulation software of impulse neural networks DAMNED. The team’s work has also been integrated into operational platforms - notably for the search for vessels via satellite images - by the company Nevantropic and reused by EADS.
