Chemical biology is a field of research that aims to dissect biological processes in cells and organisms. The mission of therapeutic chemistry is to discover drugs, most of which are small molecules that bind to proteins. They use related techniques and methods which are explained on examples, in particular to produce therapeutic tools or drug candidates. These examples show that genetic, biochemical and chemical approaches must be combined to elucidate protein function, identify and validate therapeutic targets.
